It is Beema again with the news that after a 2-hour of intense orthopedic surgery she remains a 4-pod thanks to Dr. Cleveland and his amazing team at Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialists. After the truck hit Beema at 3 months old, her left hind leg had been broken and her ligaments and knee cap were twisted in the wrong direction which kept her from straightening out her leg. She now can walk on her left hind leg much better but will need weeks of physical therapy, pain meds and care. Her right leg had an tendon rupture so she was walking on her hock and not her foot.. After left leg heals, we will most likely fuse her hock joint on her right hind leg.𝘉𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯-𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵. Beema was able to escape the Russian shelter before the ban, and arrived to the USA in the beginning of July. She is in a much better place now! Even though she is still very timid she is learning that she is safe, and is coming out of her shell more and more, with each passing day. Her wonderful foster is a vet tech who does everything possible to create a comfortable and calm environment. To Beema this means everything!

A few days ago, she had a surgery consult, in hopes that her previous surgery can be corrected. Unfortunately, her first surgery was not successful, and our doctor believes that she is in constant pain. Her left knee is completely deranged. It is twisted with her knee cap behind the knee instead of in the front. Its a complete mess. Most likely her leg needs to be amputated. This surgery will bring Beema much needed relief, and she will be a very happy tripawd one day! Beema will need major surgery, but first needs to get a splint for her right hind leg. Her procedure is scheduled for August 18th, and she will need a 6-8 week recovery with water therapy after that. Just her surgery is estimated to cost around $6,000 – $8,000.
